The Hyderabad Metro was approved by the Union Urban Development Ministry in 2003, with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) assisting in the initial planning. After nearly two decades, the Hyderabad Metro now carries nearly 3 lakh passengers every day.

Hyderabad Airport Metro Line to be Extended up to Mindspace Junction

The Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited plans to extend the current Blue Line from Nagole to Mindspace Junction. Mindspace Junction, which is about 800 meters from the Raidurg Terminal Station, will become a proposed multi-level station. The new station will have a common concourse with non-ticketing and ticketing areas, followed by the Airport Metro station. The extended Blue Line Raidurg Terminal Station will be on the topmost tier. The proposed Airport corridor project of Hyderabad Metro will be completed in 3 years. Work is also underway to complete Phase-1 pending work, and there are plans to expand metro rail services to the Ramoji Rao Film City and other areas of the city.

Major Boost for Hyderabad Metro; State Budget Allocates Rs 2,500 Crore

The metro connectivity in Hyderabad is expected to improve with the Telangana State Budget allocating a total of Rs 2,500 crore to boost the network net in the city. The State Budget for 2023-24 has allocated Rs 500 crore for the Hyderabad Airport connectivity project, Rs 500 crore for Hyderabad metro rail connectivity, and Rs 1,500 crore for payment of loans. The money allocated to Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) includes Rs 500 crore for the 5.5-km MGBS-Falaknuma Metro Rail line. The state is determined to complete the metro rail connectivity to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in 3 years with state funds. The Hyderabad Metro airport project, covering a distance of 31 km from Raidurg to the Shamshabad airport, also saw Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao laying its foundation recently.
