How to Cancel IRCTC Tickets and Understand the Fee Charges

IRCTC Ticket Cancellation Guide:
IRCTC, a key online ticket booking service, has updated the fees for confirmed ticket cancellations. It's crucial for passengers to understand these charges when canceling their e-tickets.
To cancel a ticket, users should log in to www.irctc.co.in, navigate to the "Booked Tickets" section, and select the ticket for cancellation. After specifying the passengers, the process can be finalized. Confirmation is sent online, and refunds are automatically credited back to the booking account.
For partial ticket cancellations, ensure to print a new e-reservation slip for each passenger from the original booking.
Important: E-tickets cannot be canceled after the chart preparation. For trains starting before noon, charts typically finish the evening before. In such cases, use the TDR filing option and monitor the refund status through IRCTC services.
Note that e-tickets aren't cancellable at Railway Reservation Ticket Counters. Always follow the online procedures for cancellations.
In the case of group e-tickets with a mix of confirmed and RAC/waitlisted statuses, a full refund, minus the clerk charge, is provided for confirmed passengers if tickets are canceled online or if a TDR is filed 30 minutes before departure.
RAC e-ticket refunds are eligible only with timely cancellation and by filing a TDR at least 30 minutes prior to the train's departure.
Agents handling e-tickets cannot cancel them after chart preparation. Cancellation requests should be emailed to etickets@irctc.co.in.
The cancellation fees for confirmed e-tickets are tiered according to the timing of the cancellation:
- More than 48 hours before departure: A flat rate based on the ticket class.
- Between 48 and 12 hours before departure: 25% of the fare is deducted, with a minimum charge applicable.
- Within 12 to 4 hours before departure: 50% of the fare is deducted, subject to a minimum charge.
- No refund is given if canceled less than 4 hours before departure.
For assistance, IRCTC customers can contact customer service numbers or email care@irctc.co.in for e-tickets or etickets@irctc.co.in for cancellations. E-catering queries can be directed to 1323.
In conclusion, understanding these charges and guidelines is essential for IRCTC users to manage their bookings and cancellations efficiently.
