IRCTC Cancellation Policy Update
The IRCTC, well-known for its online ticket booking services, has updated its cancellation charges for confirmed tickets. Travelers are advised to understand these fees for e-ticket cancellations.
Cancellation Process
The cancellation process is straightforward on the IRCTC platform. Users should access www.irctc.co.in, go to "Booked Tickets", choose the ticket to cancel, and specify the passengers. Post confirmation, refunds are credited to the original payment method.
Partial Ticket Cancellations
For partial ticket cancellations, each modified booking requires a new e-reservation slip to be individually printed. Notably, e-tickets can’t be canceled once the chart is prepared, which usually happens the night prior for trains leaving before noon. In such instances, submitting a TDR online and tracking refunds is recommended.
Online Cancellation Requirement
Cancellation of e-tickets at Railway Reservation Counters is not possible, hence using the online system is essential.
Group and Family Ticket Policies
For group or family e-tickets with mixed reservation statuses, confirmed passenger refunds depend on online cancellation or TDR submission at least 30 minutes before departure. RAC e-ticket refunds also need timely cancellations and TDR filings.
Agent Guidelines
Agents facilitating e-ticket bookings must comply with these rules, especially post-chart formulation, and can handle cancellation requests via email at etickets@irctc.co.in.
Cancellation Charges Breakdown
The cancellation charges vary according to the timing before the train's scheduled departure:
- More than 48 hours prior: Flat rate per passenger based on class.
- Between 48 to 12 hours: 25% fare deduction, minimum charges applicable.
- Within 12 to 4 hours: 50% fare deduction, again minimum charges apply.
- Below 4 hours: No refund for confirmed tickets.
Customer Support
For any support, customers can contact IRCTC via phone or email care@irctc.co.in for general inquiries or etickets@irctc.co.in for cancellations. E-catering services can be reached at 1323.
Final Thoughts
Understanding IRCTC's cancellation policies can simplify the travel experience during unexpected plan modifications.
